The property — London’s second-oldest hotel in Mayfair

Located in the heart of central London’s Mayfair, this charming boutique offers an ultra-luxurious stay. Established in 1851, Flemings Mayfair - Small Luxury Hotels of the World is a historic Georgian townhouse building located 300 meters from Green Park tube station.

Henrik Muehle the general manager at Flemings Mayfair told Forbes Magazine a fascinating story behind the hotel’s foundation. He said: “The hotel was established by Robert Fleming in 1851, the year of the Great Exhibition, at a time when over six million visitors came to London to see the event and required overnight accommodation. Robert Fleming was the valet for the Marquis of Anglesey, working at his grand London home Uxbridge House at No. 1 Old Burlington Street in Mayfair.”

He further added, “By 1855, Robert and his wife Mary had expanded the premises and were described as running a 'Private Hotel' at Nos. 9 and 10 Half Moon Street. Their combined resources, skills and experience made a formidable team in a business targeted at serving the aristocracy and London's gentry. By 1883, 41 Clarges Street had been added to the property and Flemings of Mayfair was truly established. The hotel has since then provided a home-from-home for guests, earning its time-trusted reputation as one of London’s oldest hotels.”
